How is Homeopathy different than conventional medicine?
Conventional Western medicine aims to manage symptoms which often results in supression of illness and unwanted side effects. Homeopathy uses ultra high dilutions of natural substances carefully matched to the patient's symptoms. The preparations of Homeopathic remedies result in safe, gentle, non toxic medicines. Homeopathy is holistic, treating the individual and not the single symptom or disease name. Homeopathy is used to assist the body in its attempt to restore balance, to stimulate healing thus alleviating symptoms naturally as opposed to conventional medicine which masks or controls symptoms. Homeopathy and conventional medicine can work well together in many circumstances.
How should I prepare for my first appointment?
As homeopathy treats the individual, there's a medicine (remedy) selection process strategically and carefully matching a remedy to the patient's symptoms. Patients should, especially in the days leading up to their appointment, pay close attention to their symptoms. Pay attention for what sensations are present, what makes symptoms better or worse, what time symptoms are most prevailent, what may trigger a symptom/ what happens just before a symptom appears. Look for symptoms that happen together or one after another. Also pay attention to intensity and frequency of symptoms. It may be helpful but is not necessary to take some notes down before the appointment if you think you might forget. Not to worry though, our in depth appointment will bring forth the needed details.
What do I expect during my first appointment?
A 90-120 minute appointment sounds like a long time but the appointment will pass suprisingly quickly. During this time we will talk in depth about you and your symptoms current and past. Since Homeopathy is holistic and individual, I need to find a remedy that matches well what you're experiencing in life at this time. I will ask you many questions in attempt to understand how your experience your symptoms and how you respond to them. This is very different than what most people are used to experiencing when they go to a Doctor and are given just a few minutes to express their concerns. It's important for your Homeopath to have a good grasp on what, how, when, where and possibly why you experience your symptoms so that a suitable match in nature, a homeopathic remedy can be chosen.
Can I use Homeopathy if I am taking prescription drugs?
Homeopathic remedies can be taken with prescription drugs but they should to be taken at a different time of day.
Is Homeopathy safe for everyone?
Homeopathic remedies are safe for everyone when used correctly, including for pregnant women, babies, seniors and people with compromised immune systems.
How many remedies will I be given and what is the cost?
Homeopathic remedies are included in the cost of the consultations. In order to properly assess how you're responding to a remedy, we need to limit as many variables as possible and this is why most of the time, you will be prescribed only 1 single remedy. It's possible that at a later time another remedy may be added into your treatment plan. It's also recommended to not start any new optional supplements at the same time as starting a Homeopathic remedy.
